For over seven years, we’ve developed chatbots, implemented messenger marketing strategies and automated communication processes for medium to large companies. Drawing on extensive experience and expertise, we created moinAI— the AI chatbot solution tailored to various use cases and industries.

🏝 From a virtual travel consultant to moinAI 🤖
In 2015, knowhere GmbH was founded with the idea of developing a virtual travel advisor that would help people find new travel destinations in a new way. We were in the Leipzig startup accelerator, SpinLab, successfully participated in various pitches and built up a large network of exciting partners, contacts and friends. We pursued the idea of the digital travel advisor for a year before we implemented it as a test chatbot for Facebook Messenger. The initial setup of the chatbot confirmed what we had already sensed: the tremendous potential in this area, which continues to grow.
This confirmed that chatbots are the direction we want to pursue.
We started out with small marketing chatbots and then moved on to large projects with Jägermeister, Thomy and Greenpeace. In addition, our work with creative agencies such as LA RED and Jung von Matt showed us how many possibilities the field of chatbots has to offer - and so we found exactly our niche: chatbots in customer communication that relieve employees, guide customers to a solution more quickly and enable companies to get in touch with their customers in an innovative way.
Our AI chatbot solution moinAI is now successfully used by large and medium-sized customers and processes several million interactions a year. Every day we face new challenges that we master with modern working methods and technologies.
Our story
2015
Founding and first pitches, SpinLab (Accelerator)
- In March 2015, the knowhere GmbH was founded
- Our product: An AI travel app
- We are taking part in our first pitch event at Betahaus
- We had the chance to pitch knowhere at SXSW in Austin
- We move into our first office in Hamburg
- We made it into the SpinLab Accelerator in Leipzig
2016
Pivot and first steps with Facebook Messenger & founding Meetup
- We decide to focus 100% on chatbots
- Our first chatbot, LEIF, helps visitors of the Dockville Festival to navigate more easily
- We develop newsletter chatbots with integration to Facebook Messenger
- The chatbot meetup in Hamburg takes place for the first time
- Founding of Botcast AI UG as a conversational AI marketing tool
2017
Marketing chatbots and specialization as an agency
- We are developing the JämBot for Jägermeister together with La Red
- With Jung Von Matt and Denkwerk, we are developing further chatbots that are online for longer campaigns
- Our launch as an official chatbot agency and expert begins
2018
Frederik Schröder joins knowhere
- Frederik Schröder joins as a business development expert
- The agency is slowly developing into the AI chatbot solution product
- We present these at the first trade fairs
- We are moving to the beautiful Ruby Offices at the port of Hamburg
2020
Rebranding as moinAI and SaaS
- The AI Chatbot Solution officially becomes moinAI
- The moinAI Hub is being redesigned and made more user-friendly to give our customers more autonomy
- New branding & new website
2021
New office and employee milestone
- We are moving to new premises in the Karolinenviertel
- And break the '20 employees' mark for the first time
2022
Our 4-day week
- We are introducing the 4-day week (32 hours)
- Generative AI: We are at OMR with the 'chatbot of tomorrow'

2023
Changes in management & AI boom
- We were at great trade fairs: CCW, Internorga, E-Commerce Berlin, OMR - more to come 2024!
- We are now over 30 employees
- We are part of the CCW trade fair advisory board
- In addition to his role as CTO, Florian Nommensen also becomes co-managing director
- Johannes Hehr becomes Chief Sales Officer
- Frederik Schröder is retiring from operations and management but will remain a shareholder
2024
Full AI power ahead
- Interesting events are and have been on the agenda again this year: CCW, OMR, Swiss Customer Service Summit, GPT Congress many more
- Release of many new features, such as the Kompanion – a 'chatbot within a chatbot' that helps with answer design
- moinAI is one of the top 100 tools in Germany (OMR Reviews Report)
- The moinAI Product Advisor is here! An AI product advisor that can be operated via chat and automatically suggests suitable articles or services to customers - perfect for e-commerce!
